Tweak List: OPENSTEP

Originally created by NeXT, OPENSTEP is an object-oriented programming framework.

The code which was the basis for OPENSTEP was first introduced in NeXT's NeXTSTEP operating system. When NeXTSTEP was discontinued, NeXT focused on its software creation and they took the object-oriented programming environs from NeXTSTEP and ported them to other platforms including x86 and some flavors of UNIX.

OPENSTEP is hailed by many OO programmers for being a powerful, well implemented framework. It is, in part, the basis for other related projects such as WebObjects.

Following Apple's purchase of NeXT, OPENSTEP was reborn in Apple's Rhapsody/MacOS X Server and MacOS X projects as the Yellow Box.
