That is a very good question...
To make a long and complicated story short, I am currently evaluating what the Xclave should be. As you have all noticed, there hasn't been that much time poured into the site lately, and my job was the primary reason for this. I had some trouble trying to reconcile where work ended and life began. While this issue has resolved itself and I am now working as an independent contractor, the questions about the future of the Xclave remain.
To explain a few things:
- The Xclave will never be seen at its original address of xclave.macnn.com ever again. The departure of this site from the servers of the Macintosh News Network is a permanent move. A number of problems had arisen between myself and the Network, and the time had come to fly.
- The Xclave is not dead…it’s on hiatus. The recent news from WWDC, MWNY, and the release of the public beta has as ever increased the need of this site to provide you with a wide-ranging base of knowledge. Unfortunately, my job these past number of months hasn’t permitted me to spend much (if any) time on the site.
With the release of public beta, there is a hunger in the world that I had hoped would have come much earlier. And even though the news section hasn't gotten much servicing of late, the "silent" move to xclave.com from xclave.macnn.com, and that some pages haven't been updated in months, people still value the Xclave as a credible news resource.
The reason for this is that our content is based on information at hand, and in-depth explanations of why things are the way they are. We don’t quote specs, we explain them. We don’t break down WHY Apple says most things, we tell you how it will affect you. We write for the masses, including the explanation of technologies, and a writing style that is all encompassing across comoputer literacy.
What takes time is finding the way to present all of that information to our readers in a timely and accurate manner, and to deliver as much information as soon as possible.
So, to get back to the main topic…
The question to be answered is not where the Xclave fits in to the landscape of OS X sites, but how to proceed...and I don't know how to answer that.
So, over the next couple of weeks, we will be looking at the work we need to do to get this site updated, revamped, and enhanced, and then figure out if that is what we want to do.
Sorry for the silence...and even sorrier if this hasn't helped you at all. :)
Sincerely,
Mark J. Hershenson
